The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season will begin with two franchise powerhouses making major leadership updates by naming Ajinkya Rahane as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain and appointing Virat Kohli as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain.


Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):


Kolkata Knight Riders selected veteran Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane to lead their team in IPL 2025 season. Ajinkya Rahane accepted the captaincy role from Shreyas Iyer after the latter joined Punjab Kings. Rahane is 36 years old. Rahane demonstrated excitement as he expressed appreciation to guide one of the best performing IPL teams. 


Vice-Captain Venkatesh Iyer joins the leadership team at KKR bringing his all-round capabilities to a mix of both seniority and young energy. 


Team Composition: As defending champions, KKR aims to retain their title under the new leadership. With both veteran and developing players on their roster the team demonstrates strong potential to compete during the season.



Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):


The captaincy baton at RCB passed from Faf du Plessis to Rajat Patidar. Andy Flower the head coach believes Patidar possesses all necessary leadership abilities to run a major IPL team effectively. 


Former captain Virat Kohli maintains an essential position in the Bangalore Royal Challengers team structure. The experienced leader supports Patidar's captaincy position because he believes the young captain possesses enough skills to fulfill the role. The team expects Kohli to supply both important guidance and reliable stability to the roster. 


Every cricket fan around the world follows RCB but the team has yet to claim a single IPL championship trophy. The team displays optimism regarding the upcoming season because they have assembled a well-balanced squad under fresh leadership. 



The inaugural match of the season takes place on March 22 at the Eden Gardens stadium between these two teams.
